Jens Risom Contemporary Furniture
This collection has a Scandinavian sensibility that works with
modern and traditional settings. By Danish designer Jens Risom, it is testament
to the simplicity and ingenuity that is so often found in timeless modern
designs. Some of the first designs commissioned by Knoll®, they brought the
natural materials and understated form of Scandinavian design to large-scale
U.S. production

| Jens Ottoman - Walnut
|
Jens Chair and Ottoman
|
| The Jens Ottoman (2008) looks the same as the one made in 1949, but
thanks to Risom’s input, it is a smarter solution that takes advantage
of resources and tools that weren’t available 60 years ago. Like all of
the furniture by this iconic designer, this Ottoman has a subtle
Scandinavian sensibility that works with modern and traditional
settings. |
Chair and ottoman were originally designed in 1949 for the Caribe
Hilton Hotel in Puerto Rico. Decades have passed since this collection
was in production, and Risom worked closely in every step of its return,
from reviewing prototypes, to adjusting tiny details, to advocating cost
effective changes in the manufacturing process |

| Risom Rocker
|
Risom Round Dining Table
|
| The Risom Rocker (2009) has a nine-button tufted back; a nod toward
the classic Danish modern aesthetic that can be found in all of Risom’s
work. Made in U.S.A. |
Part of the first collection designed for Knoll®, Jens Risom created
the Risom Round Dining Table in 1941. Its straightforward, smart design
is compactly scaled for a kitchen nook or apartment living. Risom
emigrated from Denmark to the U.S. in 1939 and is now regarded as one of
the masters of mid-century American design |
Crafted from roto-molded polyethylene, Chester has the added feature of an
optional Light Fixture which can be installed in the bottom. Plus, its unique
and innovative drainage system – a proprietary invention of Serralunga, ensures
that Chester will stand up to the elements. Made in Italy.

| Uovo Outdoor Table/Floor Lamp
|
Amax Outdoor Floor Lamp
|
| Originally made of hand-blown glass and a metal frame, the Uovo
Outdoor Lamp (1972) has been updated in outdoor-friendly polyethylene.
Casting a warm, uniform and somewhat ethereal light, Uovo can be used
indoors or out. The Uovo Lamp is manufactured by a company founded by
architect Gio Ponti. Italy |
It’s designed with the proportions of a table lamp, but everything
about the Amax Outdoor Floor Lamp (2008) is over-scaled for an impactful
installation. Italy |
If you ask Niels Bendtsen why his Neo Collection (1998) is just
as relevant today as when he first designed it, he'll point out its proportions,
which are something he's developed and perfected over time. An easy-to-live-with
and easy-to-clean seating collection.

| Homework Desk, Single Drawer
|
Niels Bendtsen Homework Desk, Double Drawer
|
| An elegant solution for home or office, the nicely scaled Homework
Desk (2009) is crafted of select materials and is attractive from all
sides. |
The desk’s balanced proportions are characteristic of Niels
Bendtsen’s work, and he maintains the desk’s airy look through an
innovative detail that allows the drawers to “float” below the glass. |

|
Pool Coffee Table
|
Pool Side Table
|
| Niels Bendtsen’s Pool Table Collection (2004) is a juxtaposition of
undisturbed flat water (like a table) and man-made squares and
rectangles (like a pool). Highlighting these shapes are the green edges
of the thick glass and reflections in the frosted or black tabletops |
A variety of sizes offer several nesting possibilities, easily
arranged to fit individual needs |

Twilight Sleep Sofa - Black Frame
|
Traversina Sleeper Sofa
|
Twilight Sleep Sofa - Aluminum Frame
|
| Designed in response to a furniture competition at the Arhus School
of Architecture in Denmark in 1999, the Twilight Sleep Sofa ingeniously
accomplishes what many conventional convertible sofas cannot do: It
functions as a single person daybed or easily unfolds for multiple
sleepers |
Danish designers/architects Flemming Busk and Stephan Hertzog bring
their characteristic clean geometric lines and a simple expression to
the Traversina Sleeper Sofa (2006). Its low profile and minimalist form
are a far cry from your grandmother’s back-wrenching hide-a-bed. |
Winner of a furniture competition at the Århus School of
Architecture in Denmark in 1999, Flemming Busk’s Twilight Sleep Sofa
distills the concept of a convertible couch to a simple cylinder and
rectangle. A compact and nicely scaled sofa, the bolster pillow adjusts
to three different positions for customized seat depths and lumbar
support. |

Malena Armchair - Walnut Frame - Velvet
|
Malena Armchair - Leather
|
| Jon Gasca's Malena Chair (1997) has character and detail that stand
out from every angle. Two sweeping back legs frame a distinctive ladder
back, which lightens the normally heavy form of most upholstered club
chairs. |
The solid beech wood frame is available in an assortment of wood
stains, and the graceful curve of the back slats provides excellent
lumbar support. The seat and back cushions follow the contours of the
chair and are upholstered in supple, but durable, semi-aniline leather.
Two or more Malena chairs arranged side by side create a theater seating
effect. |

Freja Sofa
|
Malena Sofa - Leather
|
| Aptly named after the Scandinavian goddess of love, fertility and
rain, the Freja Sofa (2004) by Swedish designer Annika Larsson is a
design of abundance and indulgence. |

ladder back, which lightens the normally heavy form of most 3-seat
upholstered sofas. |

| Nube Armchair
|
Teak Folding Stool
|
| Right angles combine with sensuous curves in the design of the Nube
Armchair (2008). Jon and Jesús Gasca’s Armchair is a startlingly simple
and architectural structure that can be viewed from any angle. With
contrasting colors (one color for the angular parts, a different tone
for the curved) and an exposed, chromed steel frame, the Nube works
individually or grouped. |
Danish designer Jens Quistgaard, whose immensely popular Dansk
tableware pieces helped define Scandinavian modern in postwar America,
designed this Teak Folding Stool. Employed as a seat, side table or
footstool, its strength and stability comes from its triangular
construction. Lightweight for portability, use the Stool indoors or out,
then fold it up and tuck it away until next time. |

Gisele Lounge Chair
|
Taburet M Stacking Stool
|
| Intrigued by the puzzle of how to create a chair that provides both
comfort and ventilation, Aristeu Pires experimented with many types of
ropes and fibers before finding the right solution for his Gisele Lounge
Chair (2003). |
The Taburet M Stacking Stool is almost pure abstraction, making
minimum impact on space and redefining "seat" in the simplest sense.
Yet, the stool is quite substantial, offering a low, comfortable seat |
